Description:
CENTRO HISTORICO. Located in Alameda Central, the city's famous Palace of Fine Arts offers visitors the finest in opera and musical concerts as well as dramatic productions. The theatre boasts a breathtaking stained glass curtain that is ceremoniously lifted before each performance. This magnificent structure also houses a museum (admission charged; free on Sundays) on the second and third floors; the collection includes over 6000 works, paintings and sculpture done by some of the country's most famous artists. Construction on this notable landmark began in 1910 but was soon interrupted by the Mexican Revolution, delaying completion until 1934. This accounts for the unique mix of architectural styles that comprise the structure.
